An article is one of the types of long-form writing that helps a speaker or writer connect to a larger audience. Articles are mainly published in newspapers, magazines, journals or blogs. The objective of an article is to provide information about or shed light on a topic of interest or even to provide suggestions to the listeners or provoke their thoughts on a sensitive issue.
An article, much like any other piece of formal writing has a proper format that needs to be followed. It must contain a title or head, the name of the writer, the main body and a conclusion. The main body of an article generally contains two to three paragraphs and provides all the information or arguments related to the topic of the article. This includes all the relevant information, factual data, descriptions, and the arguments of the writer with regards to the topic of the article. The article must end with a concluding paragraph which mainly contains a paraphrased and summarized version of the main body.
Before writing an article, one must decide on the target audience that the writer hopes to influence and the purpose of their article. Once this is done, the writer must select from all the available information on the topic and then arrange them in a logical way that flows together and makes sense to the audience.
